The multilocal challenge: Managing cross-border
resumen:
The article addresses the challenges of international business enterprise and its impact on organizational structure and local profitability. The authors refer to these companies as multilocals, which have strong roots in national and regional companies, are limited as to their growth there, but have capabilities that are of benefit in mergers and acquisitions. The article outlines the challenge facing these multilocals, which is to manage their businesses on two fronts. The authors outline the critical success factors for these businesses: identification of local and cross-border value and barriers to integration; manage the complexity of the business through geographic clustering; align management accountability; and, where appropriate, introduce a common corporate culture.
